Virginia

Overview

Virginia is one of the fifty states that, along with Washington D. C., make up the United States of America. Its capital is Richmond and its most populous city is Virginia Beach. It is located in the Southern region of the country, South Atlantic Division, bordered on the northwest by West Virginia, on the northeast by the Potomac River which separates it from Maryland and Washington D. C., on the south by North Carolina, on the southwest by Tennessee, and on the west by Kentucky. It was admitted to the Union on June 25, 1788, as the 10th state. Virginia has an economy with several major settlements, including the Department of Defense Pentagon and various federal agencies in the northern part of the state, military bases in Hampton Roads, as well as significant agricultural production.
