Overview

The Golden State, California is one of the fifty states that, along with Washington D.C., make up the United States. Its capital is Sacramento, and its most populous city is Los Angeles. It is located in the western part of the country, Pacific Division, bordered to the north by Oregon, to the east by Nevada, to the southeast by the Colorado River which separates it from Arizona, to the south by Baja California (Mexico) and to the west by the Pacific Ocean. It also has the nation's second and fifth most populous areas, Greater Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area, and eight of the country's most populous cities: Los Angeles, San Diego, San Jose, San Francisco, Fresno, Sacramento, Long Beach and Oakland.
